Solid surface is an acrylic-based composite material poured and cured into a single dense slab, instead of laminate applied over a particleboard core. The result is a seamless, non-porous top that wipes clean, resists stains and moisture, and can be sanded and repaired in place if it gets scratched or chipped. FurnitureLab's solid surface program is called EverCore, and we most commonly work with Avonite, Corian, Formica, Hanex, Hi-Macs, and Staron sheet stock.
Laminate is a thin decorative layer bonded to a particleboard or MDF core, with an edge applied separately. Solid surface is the same material all the way through, which means it's repairable, seamless at joints, and inherently non-porous. The trade-off: solid surface costs more than laminate and has a tighter color and pattern palette. Use solid surface where cleanability, repairability, and hygiene matter most. Yes. EverCore tops pair with the full FurnitureLab base family including pedestal bases, legs, flipping bases, and height-adjustable bases. Edge profiles are typically integrated into the slab (since the material is uniform through-and-through), but we can also marry EverCore to a RightEdge or NeoCast detail for a specific aesthetic.
